LARYNX :Papilloma


i) Squamous papillomas are benign lesions, usually on the true vocal cords.
ii) It occurs in the larynx as single or multiple lesions and may extend into the trachea and bronchi.
iii) They may be of viral origin and may cause respiratory obstruction or squamous cell carcinoma.
iv) Lesions are caused by human papilloma do not become malignant, but frequently recur.
v) Cancerous transformation is rare.
vi) In children, they may be multiple, referred to as juvenile laryngeal papillomatosis which often regress spontaneously at puberty.
